• A professionally delivered course
• More information and skills than you can shake a Silva compass at!
• A small theory session, then an outdoor/on the ground navigation session
• Navigation training that will cover Mountain Marathon events, open ground navigation, events that require a good level of navigation etc
• Between as 10 to 15km trail run to practice on
• Use of Silva Compasses and Maps supplied by Mountain Run
• Mixed weather - dress & plan accordingly

• Understand navigation from a Mountain Marathon/Mountain Trail runners mind set
• To navigate whilst on the move
• Understand contours in detail, this is an essential [MM] skill
• How to think like a Mountain Marathon competitor
• Tactics for score classes
• Tactics for linear classes [like C, B, A & Elite]
• How to route plan for both disciplines
• How to re-locate [static and on the move]
• A few easy tricks to keep you on your toes or your competitors behind you

Meeting place: Ambleside - Outside The Climbers Shop, Compston Road

Details:

• 09:00 - Meet and greet
• 09:15 - Around 1.5 hours theory in a local cafe or Rothay Park if the weather is fine
• 11:45 - Break for Snack/early Lunch - or very likely lunch/snacks on the fell
• 12:15 - 4 hour plus practical navigation session navigating on trails based around Rothay Park, Loughrigg and Silver Howe
• 16:15 - Course closes (be prepared to overrun slightly)

Equipment:

Please bring the following and make sure you have everything:

• Full waterproof cover (Jacket and Pants), these must be taped seems, please call to discuss if your not sure.
• 1 spare warm top, not cotton please. Wool or synthetic will be fine
• Suitable footwear for wet ground, preferably off road running shoes.
• Survival Bag
• Compass
• Whistle
• Hat & Gloves
• Race Pack/Vest to carry it all in
• Lunch, day-food & water.

Please note: Do not skimp on kit, if you are cold, you will learn absolutely nothing as you will be concentrating on the fact you are cold!
